Accenture Cuts Revenue Forecast, Triggers ₹1.35 Lakh Crore Sell-Off in Indian IT Stocks

Accenture has lowered its fiscal 2026 revenue growth forecast and reported weaker-than-expected bookings, raising concerns about global technology spending. The announcement triggered a sharp sell-off across Indian IT stocks, wiping out approximately ₹1.35 lakh crore in market value from companies such as Infosys, TCS, HCLTech, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra.

Accenture, one of the world's largest technology consulting and IT services companies, has revised its fiscal 2026 revenue growth outlook downward, citing slower client spending, weaker bookings, geopolitical uncertainty, and ongoing market challenges. The company now expects annual revenue growth of 3% to 4%, lower than its previous guidance.

The market reacted strongly to the announcement. Accenture's shares fell nearly 20%, marking one of the company's sharpest declines in recent years. Investors were particularly concerned about weaker demand for consulting projects and slower growth in new business bookings.

The impact quickly spread to India's IT sector. Major companies including Infosys, TCS, HCLTech, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra saw their shares decline as investors viewed Accenture's results as an early indicator of global IT spending trends. Reports estimate that nearly ₹1.35 lakh crore in market value was erased from Indian IT stocks following the announcement.

Industry analysts believe the sector is facing multiple headwinds, including cautious enterprise spending, AI-driven disruption, geopolitical tensions, and uncertainty around future technology budgets. Accenture also disclosed that instability in the Middle East affected revenue and bookings during the quarter.

Despite the weak outlook, Accenture remains optimistic about long-term opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. The company continues to invest heavily in AI-related services and believes enterprise AI adoption will be a major growth driver in the coming years.

Why This Matters

  • Accenture is considered a bellwether for the global IT services industry.
  • Its earnings often influence investor sentiment toward Indian IT companies.
  • The development raises questions about future hiring, salary growth, and project demand across the technology sector.
  • AI is increasingly reshaping traditional consulting and outsourcing business models.

Discussion

💬 Do you think the current slowdown is temporary, or is AI fundamentally changing the future of the IT services industry?

This news is likely more engaging than the salary-hike story because it directly affects stock markets, IT hiring, project demand, and the future outlook of the entire technology sector.
